I have been teaching violin to adults and children of all ages for 17 years. I am a classically trained violinist with a diverse musical background. I've performed with the University Orchestra and the UT Opera Society at the University of Texas as well as several string quartets and many bands. I've played in the genres of classical, folk, rock, pop, country, experimental, electronic, Mariachi and rock opera. Additionally, I taught violin in an elementary school Mariachi program for 3 years and worked with Girls Rock Austin. I currently work with two different schools in the Portland, Oregon area and offer lessons based out of my home studio.
Lessons with me focus on a classical foundation and once the basic fundamentals are accomplished we can branch out from there. I offer in-person classes for those in the Portland area as well online lessons via Skype for people in other locations or with limited transportation. I have Skype students all over-- from NYC, to Texas to Brazil!
Students are expected to commit to a one hour class once per week and lessons are paid for monthly in sets of four. For questions or to sign up for your first set of lessons get in touch!
"I am the Manager of Happy Valley Arts Academy where Naomi teaches lessons. She is great to work with! She is creditable, on time (which is very important), great communication and works amazingly with the students and parents." -Jennifer
"My daughter has been loving her lessons with Naomi. She is patient, flexible, encouraging and inspiring! I recommend her wholeheartedly." -Anne
"We are so lucky to have found Naomi! My son just started playing in December and the progress he has made in just a couple of months is really amazing. Naomi is a wonderful instructor. She’s kind, patient, knowledgeable, and dedicated to helping her students achieve success. Naomi really fosters my son’s love of the violin and I can tell how much he respects her. I also have to say that I’m really grateful for the ability to do a blend of online and in-person lessons...it’s very helpful when our calendar is full to know that we can get a high-quality lesson from the comfort of home and, yet, still have the ability to get in-person instruction should my son need it. Thanks so much, Naomi!"

"Naomi is the most patient and knowledgeable instructor we have ever had. My daughter loves going to the lessons and has progressed steadily since beginning." -Steve
"Naomi is a welcoming and thorough teacher. She took time with me at the start of my lessons, to gauge exactly where I was in technique and also what bad habits needed to be re-directed. She is very patient but consistent on the techniques that need to be practiced and accomplished. Her expertise is extensive and she plays may genres of music so would be an excellent teacher for people interested in areas other than classical. But as the basics are the same in all, she makes sure one is well grounded in those first." -Katharine
